About Me

Hi, I’m Laura (they/them).

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Olympia, Washington. I work with clients across the state via telehealth.

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and affirming - fostering a space where you are invited to be your whole, authentic self. I believe that everyone has the inner capacity to thrive, but life challenges, trauma, and systemic issues can interfere. My aim is to walk alongside you with whatever you are navigating, to support you in finding more safety and agency in your life. I will help you tap into internal and external resources to support you in your goals.

Before becoming a therapist, I was a gigging musician, music educator, and advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. At the same time, I was on my own path of self understanding and healing, with help from therapy. I began to recognize my strengths in building trust, cultivating creativity, and supporting others through vulnerable moments. These experiences led me to pursue counseling as a career.

Therapy has been transformative for me, but I have had some negative experiences along the way. These moments inform how I work with clients. I aim to create a space where you don’t have to educate your therapist on your identity. I work from a lens of cultural humility, acknowledging the privileges I hold, and strive to show up with integrity and accountability. I offer an openness to receiving feedback and a willingness to engage in challenging conversations.

I have provided therapy in a variety of settings, including telehealth, in-office, and in nature. With experience in both group practices and a community mental health agency, I’ve honed my skills to effectively support individuals through a wide range of challenges and contexts.

I chose the name Red Cedar Counseling to evoke a sense of place and connection to the natural world. The Western red cedar, iconic to the Pacific Northwest, is a tree known for it’s strength, resilience, and grounding presence. It reflects the kind of supportive space I aim to cultivate in therapy.
